A Welcome from the Principal!
Welcome to East Washington Middle School, a 2019 National School to Watch! If you look on paper, there are several reasons why we were recently awarded this designation at the national level:
1. Our academic excellence meets all national requirements due to our growth and consistency in state testing!
2. We have a House System complete with choosing ceremony and electronic score boards that promotes a family atmosphere and competition in athletics, creativity, academics, and social skills!
3. We teach high expectations through Musketeer Creed Boot Camp, so that we are consistent throughout the school year in promoting the characteristics of good citizenship. Some of our boot camp includes how to open doors for others, dining etiquette, how to hold conversations with kindness, and how to treat one another!
4. Our STEM based instruction, high school level engineering courses, and technology integration are at the forefront of Indiana schools!
5. We have a student rock band that performs twice a week before school to get our students pumped up for the day. When they aren't performing, Mr. Grable acts as our school D.J. to play theme music during passing periods to keep our culture upbeat!
6. All of our students compete in our annual Amazing Shake for a chance to win a $300 shopping spree for professional clothing and an all expense paid trip to Atlanta to compete nationally. The Amazing Shake teaches kids how to shake hands, conduct themselves in interviews, and think on their feet in the real world!
The list goes on...
However, as the building principal, I really want people to know that it's really the people who make us so special. We are blessed with wonderfully curious students who make everything we do worth it. Our staff loves these kids, and they love what they do. I've never met a more enthusiastic group of educators, and their enthusiasm spreads to the kids! It's what makes our days joyful. We welcome parents to get in on the excitement by joining our PTO. We want to be a team with parents to help our kids get the most out of their experience at EWMS!
